If you have ever come into my practice and had treatment, no doubt you hear me go on about the same things after you leave, and one of them is always GET MOVING and don't sit down for too long

If you have read my other blogs, you may have also discovered that research shows we should sit for UNDER 6 hours a day.

That includes-

- driving to work

- sitting at work

- driving home from work

- sitting watching tv

- sitting and having meals


You can see how it can quickly add up to 6 hours.


Low back pain is a worldwide health concern and it has been associated with

- poor quality of life

- long-term sickness

- early retirement


90% of the population has experienced an episode of LOW BACK PAIN in their lives


It's more common in females and people aged between 40-69 years old


It is also of note that if you have low back pain, you are likely to have neck pain, upper back pain, and shoulder pain. Hence why we look at the whole posture and make sure we get the whole body moving.


Sedentary behaviours are defined as activities with LOW ENERGY EXPENDITURE, performed in rest positions.

Sedentary behaviours are related to ALL CAUSE mortality, with obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases


Excessive consumption of coffee and cigarette smoking leads to an increased chance of recurring Low back pain.


With regards to weight, being overweight or obese was seen as a risk factor for adults and children


Study- Young adults that study over 5 hours were likely to develop low back pain


Interestingly enough, they also found that children spend 51.4% of their working time in a sedentary lifestyle. No doubt made worse from that period between 2020 and 2022


In School children, playing video games over 2 hours(a day) and watching television over 12 hours a week are risk factors for low back pain
