Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are neuromusculoskeletal conditions involving the temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscles, and associated adjacent tissues
Lets discuss the symptoms of Jaw Pain
TMJ disorders can manifest with symptoms such as pain in the jaw joint, crepitus/clicking sounds, restricted movement, pain and tenderness in surrounding tissues, as well as headaches, neck pain, earache, and toothache
Us as Chiropractors look to the jaw to assess for dysfunction , the surrounding muscles as well as the upper cervical, which is quiet often associated with jaw pain
Now to add to your therapy , researchers have looked into adding exercises to help stabilise the neck can help with your jaw pain
The following photo is an example of the exercies used to help stabilise the neck to help jaw pain

This stabilisation is essential for fundamental oral functions such as chewing, swallowing, speaking, and breathing. Therefore, biomechanical alterations in the cervical region can influence TMJ positioning and movement
For the exercise to be effective , the following regime was implemented :
Participants performed the exercises for 8 weeks, once a week under the supervision of a physical therapist and twice a week at home.
The exercise program consisted of 10 min of warm-up/cool-down and stretching exercises, followed by 30 min of stabilisation exercises.
The exercises began with 8 repetitions and gradually increased to 12 repetitions.
