What Really Happens to Your Muscles and Nerves During a Chiropractic Adjustment?

What is a Chiropractic adjustment?
When the Chiropractor adjusts, move the spine, they use a high velocity, low amplitude force to gently move the spine closer to where it needs to be.
High-velocity, low-amplitude spinal manipulation (HVLA-SM) is one of the oldest manual therapy interventions in clinical use today HVLA-SM’s popularity as a nonpharmacological treatment for musculoskeletal pain is increasing worldwide
What happens to your muscles after a single session with the Chiropractor?
Research findings appear to indicate that HVLA-SM can sufficiently modify the short-term pattern of muscle activation (EMG) locally, and to a lesser degree distally.
This means when we adjust the neck for example, it can help release the muscle tension in the surrounding neck muscles , and can help with your range of motion and function
Does the muscle strengthen or weaken after a Chiropractic adjustment ?
Evidence appears to be mounting with regard to HVLA-SM resulting in short-term increases in muscle strength
Which is great news when we are trying to get you moving better and functioning better
When we for example adjust the lower back , this will help your back muscles , like your multifidus muscle , to strengthen which will hold your back up correctly , give you better support and help you do daily tasks like cleaning and office work
