Understanding the Prevalence and Effects of Flexible Flatfoot in School-Aged Children
The human foot plays a crucial role in locomotion, shock absorption, and load distribution, with its structural integrity being essential for efficient gait and overall musculoskeletal health
What are flat flatfeet?
characterised by a lowered or absent medial longitudinal arch during weight-bearing that reconstitutes when non-weight-bearing
While this condition is often considered part of normal development in early childhood, its persistence beyond certain developmental stages and its potential association with pain or reduced function are of concern.
Who gets flat feet?
Flexible flatfoot has been reported to occur with varying prevalence across different age groups, ethnicities, and body types, with studies suggesting higher rates among children with increased body mass index (BMI)
It usually occurs in both feet
What can you do to help your kids grow out of flat feet?
Movement is medicine as i always say , 150 minutes of exercise will help remove risk factors of elevated BMI and sedentary lifestyle
increased body weight alters foot structure and function by placing excessive stress on the developing medial longitudinal arch
Increase barefoot walking
