Unlocking Shoulder Mobility: The Role of Stretching

Subacromial Impingement Syndrome (SIS) is 1 of the primary causes of shoulder pain and functional impairment, commonly observed in individuals with repetitive overhead activities or structural abnormalities of the shoulder

How Do you get impingement syndrome?

results from the compression or friction of soft tissues, such as the supraspinatus tendon and subacromial bursa, within the subacromial space, leading to local inflammation and pain.

As the condition progresses, patients may experience restricted shoulder mobility, increased pain during the night, and a significant decline in daily living activities.

SIS is particularly prevalent among athletes, manual labourers, and the elderly

Why do people stretch after having their Chiropractic Therapy?

exercises aim to increase shoulder joint mobility, reduce tension in the joint capsule and soft tissues, and subsequently relieve pressure on the subacromial structures.

What are some modified stretches for the shoulder?

Modified sleeper stretch

  1. Lie on your side with your dominant arm down.

  2. Rotate your trunk back 20–30°.

  3. Raise your shoulder to 90°.

  4. Flex your elbow to 90°.

  5. Semi-flex both knees.

  6. Use your opposite hand to grasp your dominant hand below the wrist.

  7. Gradually rotate your forearm inward toward the ground.

  8. Hold for 30 seconds.

  9. Repeat 3–5 times.
