Calories in, calories out is all that matters when it comes to weight loss- There are other factors like hypothyroidism, medications, genetics, etc

  1. High-fat foods are unhealthy - Dietary fat is ESSENTIAL for optimal health - Diets HIGHER in fat have been proven just as effective than low-fat diets

  2. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day- Health benefits are associated with eating and not eating breaky

  3. You need to eat small, frequent meals for optimal health - REGULAR meal pattern is BEST for health

  4. Nonnutritive sweeteners are healthy- They can actually cause type 2 diabetes and negative changes to gut bacteria

  5. The macronutrient ratio matters more than diet quality - the key thing is to have unprocessed foods!

  6. White Potatoes are unhealthy- just have white potatoes roasted or baked

  7. Low-fat and diet foods are healthy alternatives- Low-fat and diet foods are usually HIGH in sugar and salt

  8. Following a very low-calorie diet is the best way to lose weight- Low-calorie diets lead to metabolic adaptions that make LONG TERM weight control difficult

  9. Calcium supplements are necessary for bone health - This is fairly new as it's now coming to light that calcium can increase the risk of heart disease, and may NOT reduce the risk of fracture/osteoporosis

  10. Everyone can benefit from a probiotic- probiotics in SOME PEOPLE may lead to negative changes in the gut bacteria and can lead to bloating, gas, and other effects

  11. High-cholesterol foods are unhealthy- foods like eggs, and full-fat yogurt are HIGHLY nutritious.

  12. Carbs are NO good because they cause weight gain High fiber carbs like the Mediterranean diet, can actually help REDUCE the risk of obesity, diabetes, and cancers.
