- Say Goodbye to Daily Grind Headaches with These Simple Tips
Say Goodbye to Daily Grind Headaches with These Simple Tips Headaches are becoming increasingly common and we are often guilty of taking some painkillers and ignoring the problem. Headaches can take different forms such as migraines or tension headaches, and these can greatly impact quality of life. Headaches can be caused by various reasons, including but not limited to, poor posture, stress, sleeping patterns, and poor nutrition. Here are some tips that can help decrease the severity or frequency of headaches: Get enough sleep -adequate sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle. Getting enough sleep plays an important role in your physical, mental and emotional health. Fix your sleeping posture – An awkward sleeping position affects the alignment of your spine and can cause stiffness in the morning. Avoid sleeping on your stomach and try to sleep on your back instead to maintain the natural curve of the spine. Be mindful of your posture – whether it’s during your commute or at the office, maintaining a good posture is very important for spinal health Improve your nutrition – having a nutritious breakfast can make you feel good as you go about your day. Drive Smart – If you drive regularly, adjust your seat to make sure that you are not straining any part of your body. Move the seat closer to the steering wheel to support the curve of your back. Chiropractors Can Help Chiropractors regularly diagnose, care for and manage headaches, and many studies have reported on the effectiveness of chiropractic care in alleviating migraine pain and other health issues that arise from neck and back issues. An Australian study published in the Journal of Manipulative Physiological Therapy demonstrated the effectiveness of chiropractic care in treating migraine pain. The Macquarie University study analysed the responses of 127 volunteers who suffered from migraines aged from 10 to 70 years. The researchers found that more than 80% of people who were provided with chiropractic care reported an improvement in migraines.1 If you want more information. - Transform Your Nervous System into an Ally for Success
Transform Your Nervous System into an Ally for Success Even though we are connected with each other via social media and phones, we are now MORE stressed and MORE lonely than ever. A study found that people who spend more than 2 hours a day on social media are twice as likely to feel socially isolated. Another study found that since the year 2000 ( roughly when smartphones were available) found the average attention span has DECREASED by a third How do we improve this? We need to change our minds to change our genes - Research at Harvard found that mediation, alone can change the expression of genes that regulate inflammation, cell death (apoptosis), and oxidative stress in as little as two weeks. How does meditation do this? Meditation causes part of your brain (the left prefrontal cortex) to send inhibitory to your amygdala(which is the emotional part of the brain) Another study discusses this further, where people meditated 30 minutes a day for 8 weeks and an increase in brain size (their hippocampus) which lead to memory improvement and a decrease in their amygdala, leading to a reduction in anger and fear. - Why You're Still Tired Even Though You Got Enough Sleep
Why You're Still Tired Even Though You Got Enough Sleep Are you constantly tired and sluggish although you slept enough? Here are some common reasons you could be tired Your sleep rhythm is disturbed. Are you constantly getting 7-8 hours of sleep? If you are not, you could also put yourself at risk of putting on weight. Try to sleep at regular times each time. You are not eating right. Eating empty carbs like white bread, sodas, and sweets only gives a temporary energy boost due to blood sugar levels being spiked. The same negative reaction can occur with too much coffee. Another factor is that eating meat causes us to be tired of the amino acid tryptophan being released. Tired? Headaches? You may not be drinking enough water. Our body is over 50% water, if we drink too little, our metabolism slows down and leads to us being tired. Exercise more! This will help with boosting metabolism and increase circulation. Studies also show that a consistent workout can help with sleeping Get more sun! Not getting enough sun can lead to the body releasing too much sleep hormone melatonin. So in winter months try and get more sunshine to help with the fatigue. Too much stress. Try switching off, turning off the internet, and turning off the mobile to help the brain switch off and help with sleep patterns. - The Macronutrient Mystery: Determining Ideal Daily Intake for Optimal Health
The Macronutrient Mystery: Determining Ideal Daily Intake for Optimal Health How many meals should you have a day? You are what you eat, so we need to eat well and have the right macronutrients. Here are some myths and facts: 1. Eating more smaller meals means FASTER METABOLISM Meal digestion does increase your metabolic rate, BUT when total daily calorie intake is controlled, eating more often will not make a difference in weight loss. 2. Skipping breakfast is really bad for you. The science is not in agreeance on this one. Running or exercising on an empty stomach seems fine but only on a low intensity. 3. If you skip meals you will lose weight Restricting your calorie intake will slow down your metabolic rate. Your weight loss will naturally slow down once you have less to lose. It does not mean you're in starvation mode. Starving yourself with severe caloric restriction could lead to malnutrition and is not advised. Consider eating less often if these apply to you: You want to think less about food you can't lose weight even by restricting calories you have digestive problems Consider eating more often if: you want to gain weight but you can eat soo many calories in one meal you have an active job you are an athlete You feel hangry ( Dr. Julian at 6 pm) We have been helping our community for over 10+ years with their muscle and spinal problems. - Chiropractic Adjustments: A Surprising Way to Boost Muscle Strength
Chiropractic Adjustments: A Surprising Way to Boost Muscle Strength Recent research shows that chiropractic adjustments can increase muscle strength What is a chiropractic adjustment? It is an HVLA thrust maneuver that is designed to correct spinal patho-neuro-biomechanics ( like nerve irritation) It does this by increasing proteins like substance P (evans 2002) The goal is to treat pain and dysfunction. Reed, Pickar, Sozio, and Long in 2014 showed that manual therapy can increase mechanical pressure pain thresholds (decrease sensitivity) Adjustments in the neck can result in unilateral and bilateral mechanical hypoalgesia (decrease sensitivity to painful stimuli) Daligadu, Haavik, Yielder, Baarbe, and Murphy (2013) Showed that muscle impairment occurs where there is a muscle complaint. They also showed that muscle impairment does NOT automatically resolve when the pain symptoms improve. This leads to deficits in proprioception and motor control (rather than the pain itself) which is why sometimes we have chronic pain conditions A 2018 study from Christriansen, Niazi, Holt, Nedergaard, Duehr, Allen, Marshall, Turker and Haarvik showed that voluntary contraction force lasted 30 minutes and corticospinal excitability increase persisted for at least 60 minutes. Having increased motor function for a minimum of 60 minutes can lead to athletes having increased motor function, which had led to ideas that maybe people with Parkinson’s and muscular Dystrophy could benefit. Further research on these patients is needed. We have been helping our community for over 10+ years with their muscle and spinal problems. - Chiropractic as Effective Tool for Reducing Opioid Use in Low Back Pain Patients
Chiropractic as Effective Tool for Reducing Opioid Use in Low Back Pain Patients Chiropractic reduces Opioid use by 55% in low back pain Over one in 4 adults have low back pain, Peterson et al in 2012 stated that low back pain is between 15-30% and has a lifetime prevalence of 50-80%. Chronic pain is pain longer than 6 months after the healing of the original injury. Chronic pain can lead to depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and abnormal decision-making. A recent study by Whedon, Toler, Goel and Kazal (2018) Showed that spinal manipulation is shown to be an effective treatment option for chronic low back pain. The American College of Physicians now recommends nonpharmacological treatment first. A study of over 160 000 patients found that Chiropractic treatments reduced the use of opioids.
