  • Correcting the Spine: How Chiropractors Can Help You Get Back to Feeling Your Best.

Correcting the Spine: How Chiropractors Can Help You Get Back to Feeling Your Best. Chiropractors work on the spine by delivering a high velocity, low amplitude thrust to remove spinal subluxations Only Chiropractors are trained to perform these techniques on spinal subluxations, and research in 2024 looked into the effect of these thrusts The research compared thursts on the spine where subluxations exist versus spinal segments where not considered dysfunctional How Do Chiropractors Detect Where to Adjust the Spine? Check for tenderness tight muscles reduced movement in the spinal joint What did the research find when comparing adjustments to the neck for subluxated segments versus non-subluxated segments? where chiropractors adjust can alter the chemicals released in the body Where there were ACTUAL subluxations in the neck, there were sensorimotor changes in the prefrontal cortex Where there were NO subluxations, the chemical reaction did not occur So what are sensorimotor changes? These are changes in our motor functions due to sensory input, examples can be balancing visual tasks coordination For more information about how we can help. Does Spinal Manipulative Therapy Affect the Need for Lumbar Spine Reoperation After Discectomy? 1st let's discuss what a lumbar discectomy is: this is a surgical procedure to remove a herniated intervertebral disc material to alleviate refractory lower extremity pain, numbness or weakness Re-operation occurs for 6-12% of people 20% of lumbar discectomy patients have continued symptoms one year after surgery Spinal manipulative therapy is a potential treatment for those with ongoing symptoms after spine surgery. Research released in 2024 found that patients who received chiropractic care are LESS LIKELY to undergo lumbar spine reoperation compared to those who did receive chiropractic care Research also shows that patients receiving chiropractic care for a new diagnosis of lumbar spine problems are less likely to undergo discectomy The study didnt look at the cost comparisons of lumbar surgery vs Chiropractic care, but noted that in the USA the surgery costs approximately $13750 ( $21 000 AUD) vs our Chiropractic fee of $57 For more information about how we can help. • Say Goodbye to Jaw Pain: Effective Relief Techniques You Can Try Today

Say Goodbye to Jaw Pain: Effective Relief Techniques You Can Try Today Most jaw pain comes from muscle tightness, also known as myofascial pain. -Myofascial pain (MFP) is a complex condition characterised by localised muscle pain attributed to the presence of tender trigger points (TrPs) within the musculature. The development of trigger points occurs via 2 processes: something can traumatise a muscle ( injury , micro-traumas from doing repeated habits like from work or hobbies you may do ) some things weaken and predispose a muscle to the formation of trigger points, like nutritional, structural problems, sleep, and insufficient exercise. The team at Health Wise Chiropractic diagnosis trigger points with palpation skills and a thorough history examination. What trigger points are found in jaw pain? masseter temporalis medial pterygoid How different treatments aim to help Jaw Pain analgesics: NSAIDS are highly effective in managing mild to severe inflammatory pain. They work by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase (COX) muscle relaxants: Tizanidine, a centrally acting alpha2 agonist, offers a valuable therapeutic option for alleviating spasticity antidepressants: Despite their wide use, there has been limited research focused specifically on their effectiveness in treating MFP Botulinum Toxin: They work by promoting increased blood flow to affected muscles, thus aiding in the release of nerve fibres that may have been compressed due to abnormal muscle contractions Dry Needling: The dry needling is equally effective compared to TrP injections, establishing its eligibility as a primary treatment for acute cases Chiropractic Adjustments: Working on aligning the jaw and the upper cervical, as well as working on the muscle trigger points to alleviate the pain and limited motion. • Unlocking the Potential: How Self-Massage Can Enhance Your Athletic Performance

"Unlocking the Potential: How Self-Massage Can Enhance Your Athletic Performance" Whether you use foam rollers or massage rollers, researchers wanted to know do they help your athletic performance Your myofascial system has 2 elements, a fibrous component & soft connective collagen tissue, which envelopes the body. Your fascial system penetrates and surrounds all organs, muscles, bones, and nerve fibres; it gives the body a functional structure and provides an environment that allows all body systems to operate in an integrated manner Self-massage can increase the plasticity of the fascial tissue through temporary changes in the liquid content; since the fascia expels excess fluid after compression, this would allow an increase in range of motion (ROM) The research found that self-massage effects can have a POSITIVE and help with increase range of motion help with delayed onset muscle soreness improvements in muscle performance before and after exercise Further research found that foam rolling was recommended acutely, but not for protocols for longer than 2 weeks Concerning mobility improvement and flexibility, SMR exercises can temporarily increase the ROM of the hip, knee, and ankle joints, as well as muscle flexibility, How did the researchers explain the improvement? Positive effects observed may be explained by a temporary reduction in the connection between the fascial tissue and muscle tissue, and when we say temporary, the research says most improvements only lasted 10 minutes and not much benefit was seen after 24 hours Enhancement of performance: Self Massage effects It has been theorised that SMR may elevate skin temperatures and boost blood circulation to the muscle tissue This rise in blood flow and muscle tissue warmth might alleviate muscle restrictions and enhance range of motion (ROM) without impeding neuromuscular force production However, after analysis of the research, researchers couldn't find significant improvements The research concluded it was hard to recommend self-massage as a tool for improving speed in athletes The effect of self-massage after football training: The study revealed that athletes who performed SMR exercises after football training sessions had better perceived recovery and less feeling of tiredness 24 hours after the exertion during training, compared to those athletes performing a passive recovery. Many believe central sensitisation to be the cause. Central sensitisation refers to the heightened responsiveness of nociceptors in the central nervous system to normal or sub-threshold afferent inputs, leading to increased pain sensitivity Recent research shows up to 4% of the population suffers fibromyalgia, with it being more prevalent in females. A devastating statistic shows that 1 in 4 patients are compelled to leave their employment within 5 years of diagnosis. Fibromyalgia patients experience debilitating pain that they have decreased sleep quality and emotional depression. Complimentary and alternative medicine has shown to have significant potential as an effective treatment plan option for fibromyalgia patients What did the latest research find? combining 2 therapies has more favourable outcomes complementary medicine is safe and effective for managing fibromyalgia external treatments within the realm of complimentary medicine are more effective than control treatments in alleviating pain, reducing anxiety and enhancing sleep quality. • "Exploring the Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Management"

Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease are the two most prevalent neurodegenerative disorders worldwide Alzheimer’s is characterised as dementia involving memory loss, confusion, and cognitive impairment, while Parkinson’s is a movement disorder involving tremors, rigidity, bradykinesia, and postural instability. In addition, both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease involve altered sensorimotor processing in the central nervous system . In both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, these alterations may manifest as functional impairments, including reduced gait speed, postural abnormalities, and musculoskeletal pain Which are potential targets for conservative therapies such as chiropractic spinal adjustments What is Chiropractic? Chiropractic spinal adjustments are a therapeutic procedure aimed at correcting vertebral subluxations or dysfunctions A vertebral subluxation refers to a vertebral motion segment that is dysfunctional and is characterised by abnormal intersegmental range of motion, tenderness to touch, and stiffness Subluxations are described as persistent motor control problems affecting a joint, leading to improper movement and causing neural changes that hinder the central nervous system’s ability to regulate, organize, adapt, repair, and heal Previous research has shown that chiropractic spinal adjustments induce neural plastic changes in the central nervous system as observed via EEG and SEPs . While the findings of these studies vary, the most consistently observed effect is a reduction in the amplitude of the N30 SEP peak. This peak is believed to originate from the prefrontal cortex, an area of the brain involved in sensorimotor function In Short : N30 SETP is important for motor funtion Given that many patients with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease suffer from central sensorimotor abnormalities, they may benefit from hands-on (therapeutic touch) techniques, and given that chiropractic adjustments have been shown to improve central sensorimotor integration, motor control and function in other populations, it is possible that Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease patients could also benefit from chiropractic spinal adjustments. Putting it all together: What does Chiropractic do on N30 SEP Researches found that a single session of chiropractic spinal adjustment reduced the somatosensory evoked N30 potential and enhancement in connectivity within the DMN at the alpha, beta, and theta frequency bands in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease For more information about how we can help.
