  • Dry Needling or Kinesio Taping in muscle treatment ?

Dry Needling or Kinesio Taping in muscle treatment ? A 2022 study looked into the upper trapezius muscle and whether it would respond better to dry needling or Kinesio taping Muscle disorders are one of the main causes of pain, one in three patients have myofascial pain syndrome ( this is when trigger points develop in the skeletal muscles) We develop trigger points thanks to our sedentary lifestyle, as we spend most of our time in a static posture, in fact, research has shown that we sit for more than Half our day ( it should be less than 6 hours total) The trapezius muscles function is - stabilise the scapula - move the scapula - rotate the scapula and extend the neck The trapezius, when trigger points are present, can refer pain to - pain on the side of the neck - pain on the back of the neck - pain behind the ear - pain in your temples A major reason that people develop trap problems is a forward head posture The results were great for either option Both dry needling and Kinesio taping increased pressure pain threshold AND reduced muscle thickness We have been helping our community for over 10+ years with their muscle and spinal problems. Is neck pain related to your wrist ? More and more of us are moving into a service industry We are more likely now to need to use our wrists in terms of serving our clients in a restaurant , typing more on computers as well as our daily tasks like putting the dishes away and doing the gardening Neck pain is one of the leading causes of pain and disability worldwide and research is looking into whether neck pain alters proprioception in the wrist When we talk about proprioception, we are talking about our bodies ability to sense movement, action and location This study demonstrated that neck pain or fatigue can lead to altered afferent input to the central nervous system and can affect wrist Joint position sense. Whats even more impressive is, we are not talking about 100 sessions over a couple of months, the study found that the increase in joint position sense can improve after 1 session! • Shoulder Impingement Syndrome- How Chiropractic can help

Shoulder Impingement Syndrome- How Chiropractic can help Research released in February 2023 looked into shoulder impingement syndrome and whether a thoracic spinal thrust manipulation could be of benefit With 55% of the working population likely to have Shoulder Pain this year, it's important to get the right treatment and get back to doing the things we like doing without pain and dysfunction Studies showed - immediate improvement in range of motion - pain reduction - exercise therapy is also beneficial in getting improvement This is where I like to remind patients about the importance of lifestyle factors There is no point in getting adjusted/massaged if you continue the bad habits after the adjustment - spending more than 30 minutes on technology daily - not exercising - sitting more than 6 hours a day Next time you come in, discuss with the chiropractor how you can get more benefit out of your session with lifestyle changes! or Redo the welcome to chiropractic online course that has great information We have been helping our community for over 10+ years with their muscle and spinal problems. • Spinal Adjustments can INFLUENCE brain Activity in patients with symptomatic disc herniations

Spinal Adjustments can INFLUENCE brain Activity in patients with symptomatic disc herniations Spinal Adjustments can INFLUENCE brain Activity in patients with symptomatic disc herniations Lumbar Disc Herniation is one of the leading causes of low back pain It presents in my clinic as pain, reflex loss and muscle weakness Chiropractic Spinal manipulative therapy can relieve pain and can promote internal and external stabilisation of the LUMBAR spine This recent study calculated the amplitude of low frequency fluctuations (ALFF)and fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuations (ALFF is used to detect the regional intensity of spontaneous fluctuations) They found that altered regional patterns in spontaneous neural activity in patients with lumbar disc herniation They found an increase in the right lingual gyro and increased in Left cerebellum Crus The right lingual gurus may be involved in the perception and recognition of familiar landmarks We have been helping our community for over 10+ years with their muscle and spinal problems. Poor Posture? You probably have breathing problems too- Here’s what the research says The link with POOR posture and Breathing problems I talk about it all the time, poor posture and bad lifestyle choices can have negative affects on the body Research looked into if you had forward head posture, whether it could lead to respiratory dysfunction So what is exactly forward head posture Well one of the first lifestyle habits i ask my patients is how long are you spending on the devices, as its recommended that it be a max of 30 minutes a day - i usually get a response of laughs or big shock eyes as most are clearly spending WAY more than 30 minutes a day on devices So becuase of this and other lifestyle choices like the way we sit, stand etc we can develop forward head posture Bad neck posture consist of hyperextend ion of the upper cervical vertebrae and forward translation of the cervical vertebrae - causing loading on the tissues like the facet joints and ligaments Some signs and symptoms you have forward head posture are neck pain Headache TMJ (temporomandibular pain) Musculoskeletal The results found that the forward head posture caused EXPANSION of the upper thorax and CONTRACTION of the lower thorax - these changes cased a DECREASE in respiratory function These findings suggest that the shape of the thorax changed and respiration decreased with forward head posture relative to a neutral head position - the person didn’t necessarily have to have neck pain to have the breathing dysfunction We have been helping our community for over 10+ years with their muscle and spinal problems. • Chiropractic & Central Afferent Inhibition: A Chiropractic Care Path & Mechanism for Chronic Pain,

Chiropractic & Central Afferent Inhibition: A Chiropractic Care Path & Mechanism for Chronic Pain, Tremors, Spatial and Inhibitory Distortion Recent studies have shown that chronic pain harms the cortical areas unrelated to pain, long term pain alters the functional connectivity of cortical regions known to be active at rest. MRI of back pain patients who perform a simple task showed that these patients had had decreased brain function and shows that there could be a link between the default mode network and cognitive and behavioral impairments The default mode of brain function is the existence of a resting state in which the brain remained active in an organised matter. The default mode network is disrupted in Autism, Alzheimer's, depression, and ADHD. Potential changes in the default mode network could be related to symptoms commonly exhibited by chronic pain patients like depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Studies show that there are significantly less deactivations in chronic back pain patients than healthy subjects in the prefrontal cortex, amygdala and posterior cingulate/ cuneate cortexes. Patients exhibit increased pre-frontal cortex activity in relation to spontaneous pain, in addition to dorsolateral prefrontal cortex atrophy. Therefore, the decreased deactivations described here may be related to the dorsolateral pre-frontal cortex /pre-frontal cortex mutual inhibitory interactions perturbed with time Recent Chiropractic studies have found after several weeks of chiropractic care in chronic pain patients, found that they have an improvement in the gating of peripheral afferent input to the brain, improving cortical motor areas, and improving processing of motor programs. Higgins DM, Han L, Kerns RD, Driscoll MA, Heapy AA, Skanderson M, Lisi AJ, Mattocks KM, Brandt C, Haskell SG. Pain Med. 2022 Jan 6. pii: pnab351. doi: 10.1093/pm/pnab351. Results Among 331,908 veterans without spine pain episodes of care during the 2-year baseline observation period, 16.5% (n = 54,852) had a new episode of care during the following 2-year observation period. Of those 54,852 veterans, 37,025 had an outpatient visit data during the final 2-year follow-up period, with 53.7% (n = 19,865) evidencing continued spine pain care. Those with continued care were more likely to be overweight or obese, non-smokers, Army veterans, have higher education, and had higher rates of diagnoses of all medical and mental health conditions examined at baseline. Among several important findings, women had 13% lower odds of continued care during the final 2-year observation period, OR 0.87 (0.81, 0.95). Conclusions A number of important demographics and clinical correlates were associated with increased likelihood of seeking new and continued episodes of care for spine pain; however, further examination of risk factors associated with healthcare utilization for spine pain is indicated.
